Written by Irie the Jackahuahua

Hola cachorritos! Long time no bark, or howl, or sniff. *Sniff sniff*, you smell like a nice pup. I’m here today on dog-friendly Fursday since tomorrow is el Ano Nuevo! Well, New Year Day in Ingles.

I thought I’d paw around, nest it up, make myself at home on mami’s desk. She’s not using it anyhow. Work? Psh! She’s too busy cleaning up my accidents. Whoopsie, did I mention I sorta went twosies in the office of the nice lady who does all the numbers? I SWEAR I’m potty trained! I just had to go really really baaad, and while mami signed her time… sheet(?) I had an itty bitty accident. But, the numbers lady is nice and said it was my way of showing her how comfy I am with her. She’s right! I hate to go inside, but sometimes, puppies, when you gotta go you gotta go, forget the niceities!

I guess, I’m pawing at the keyboard ’cause, well, I was a bit naughty last week. Oh no, I didn’t go numba’ two anywherez. It’s just that mami was sick, and I guess I didn’t care tooo much to be on my best behavior.

*Puppy sigh*… Okay, these are my confessions, as Usher would say, about being a cute, but silly pup when mami was sick with bronchitis. Look, first of all, in my defense, how was I supposed to know mami was sick?! Sneezing, laughing, coughing, singing, wheezing – it’s all the same to me. If you can stand up on two legs, humans, and walk to the juice in the fridge, then there’s no reason you can’t chase me around the house with a squeaky football in my mouth! Am I right or am I right, cachorritos?

Pero, there are some advantages to this sickyness puppies. There are these boxes of this soft fluffy papery stuff lying all over the place. The humans use it to blow their big human noses, but if you’re extra sneaky you can jump right in and snatch a bunch out of the box and tear them to shreds in an instance. When your mami says, “Off,” just grab those tissues quickly and run for dear life. You see cachorritos, when the humans are “sick” they can’t run as fast! They just give up and let you happily tear tear and rip away. Chomp, chomp, chomp. Oh, I love tissue, almost as much as I love socks!

Tambien, when your human’s sick they lie around a lot! And you know what that means pups. It means lots of jumping on top of your human! You can lick their face, dig under their legs, hop on their bellies. It’s the most fun ever because they’ll play back by flicking their big human paws at you and digging their head into the pillows and growling! It’s a play growl, for sure.

Then there’re the naps, my friends. The lovely naps on the bed while your human snores away and they have the heater blowing. I looove to curl up on the bed, in a little pile of cuteness, in front of the heater. Mmm, delicious, like sleeping on fluffy clouds of socks, BOL!

Just stay away from your human when she washes her hands (they do this a lot when they’re sick!). All that water makes me nervous that I’ll be next. No sir, not me, I haaate baths.

Sick mamis aren’t so bad. Because when they get all better, all they want to do is hug you, kiss you, and play with you and your squeaky football non-stop!

Ruff ruff ruff…

(For my fellow K9 reporter Leroy’s pawspective, check out “Be Kind to Sick Pooches and People“)

Cachorritos, most of you know about my dog-friendly Friday office adventures with Mr. Cody. I arrived to the i Love Dogs office a little more than two months ago, y pues when I got here of course I was oh so excited to find another puppy hanging out at the office. He was so cute, so debonaire, such a Pomeranian. I wanted to make him my friend so badly. What’s more fun than actually being ALLOWED to run like crazy dogs all over an office, while the dog-loving humans just laugh and type away?!

But, Cody insists on telling me to “hit the road, kid!” Pues, this pup’s never met a Jackahuahua like me. I’ve made it my personal mission to bring Cody out of ”curmudgeon-hood” and into the wonderful world of doggie play time! My mami took these videos of me trying to get my office pawl Cody to play.

I finally gave in for the day though, and plopped into my bed for a good snooze, man that Cody’s a tough one to budge…

…the battle continues

Written by Irie the Jackahuahua

There’s a monster living in mami’s closet. Sí mis perritos, it’s a quiet monster most days. It sits in the closet and doesn’t make a sound and I sometimes even forget that it exists. But, it always comes out eventually. Usually it comes out when I’ve left my pretty blanket of white snow hairs on the carpet. Grrrowl, I get so mad when the monster comes out because I know my pretty blanket is going to go bye-bye. Mami will open the door and I’ll get down ready to attack. She trusts me to protect her from the noisy monster dog, of course.

It comes squeaking out at first and its feet roll across the carpet. It’s asleep. I don’t take my eyes off of the monstro. Then mami pulls its long tail. She tries to help, but the big monster dog’s too much for her. Y pues, then she kicks it! I wish she wouldn’t do that because then the dog monster wakes up! Its eyes glow bright and it starts to growl loud and long. Mami tries to grab onto it, but it zooms back and forth, back and forth and doesn’t stop. She can barely hold on. It’s the hungriest dog I’ve ever seen! It eats everything on the ground, EVERYTHING. Leave some for mi perrito monstro!

But, I have a strategy. I let him eat and just when he gets close to my favorite squeaky football I sneak up on him and BARK! I shoot in and out – first on his left, then from behind, then on his right. He never sees it coming. Mami laughs because she knows the monster dog is no match for me. Mami gives me i Love Dogs vitamins for dogs! So I’m super strong like Popeye when he eats spinach. Muahaha, BARK BARK Grrr!

Soon enough though, cachorritos, I fend him off and protect my mami from the evil closet dog monster. He gets super quiet and mom pushes him back into the closet where he lives. But one day perritos, he’ll stop coming back and I’ll live happily ever after in my Jackahuahua kingdom and all the humans shall be safe from the closet dog monster thanks to yours truly!

Mis perritos, do you have a closet dog monster? Tell me about how you vanquished yours in the comments below!

Hi, I’m Cody. My mom brings me with her sometimes when she goes to a place where people sit all day and don’t play much.

There’s a big girl dog here they call Lucy and I don’t like her coming near me. I’m not used to big dogs, and she might try to take my food too. She’s cute, though. She doesn’t seem scared of anything, and just wants belly rubs. I like belly rubs, too.

At first the people scared me and I’d bark or growl, but they always give me a biscuit when they walk by. The biscuits helped me see that they aren’t going to hurt me. I even let them stay awhile, even though they’re in my territory. I try hard to not be scared.

Sometimes they even play with me with my favorite toy. My mom says it’s a cat toy but I still like it. It has a bell in it that I rip out sometimes and my mom ties it back in for me again so I can keep killing it. I shake it up.

I like running around. My mom puts me in my crate when she thinks I have to go potty because I’m still too scared to pee when I’m outside on a leash. She takes me home at lunch for my potty break. I drink a lot of water here to wash the biscuits down.

It seems a little less scary every time I go there. I like being with my mom.

I sure love it when my mom takes me into work with her. Every Friday we hop in the car together, and I already know we are going to be gone for the whole day because she packs up my bed, leash, and even some treats!

My favorite thing to do when we get to the i Love Dogs building is run down the long hallway in the back before we finally reach the office. Sometimes my mom will even race with me down the hallway, and that’s even more fun. She looks so silly running in her work clothes and carrying all my things along with her purse and lunch!

My next favorite thing to do at the office is greet everyone. I say hello to my mom’s work friends and they all pet me and give me belly rubs. I think everyone knows by now that belly rubs are my favorite. By 9am I am already pretty tired from visiting with everyone. I usually go back to sleep for a while on my bed, which my mom puts right next to her desk so she can reach down and pet me while she’s working.

At lunchtime my mom takes me for a nice long walk . It’s nice to go outside and stretch my legs… even though they’re not very long! It’s always pretty sunny where we live so the walks get me good and tired all over again.

Another reason I love coming to the office is because I get to meet other pooches. Cody is a fluffy little guy who is just learning how to play with other pooches, but I think pretty soon we’ll be really good friends. Cody’s mom is my friend too—she gives good belly rubs and tosses me treats from her desk throughout the day.

I also met a young pup named Shelby at my mom’s office. Shelby is a lot bigger than I am, despite being a couple years younger than me. She has so much energy–I think her parents must have to take her on a 5 mile run to use up all that energy.

By the end of the day I wander over to the big window and enjoy the view of the grass and trees outside. This usually puts me back to sleep again. Before I know it my mom tells me that it’s time to go home. She packs up the car and then comes back for me so we can run through the back hallway together again.

The drive home is probably the worst part for my mom. I think she is just excited to get home and tell my dad about all the fun things we did that day. I usually fall asleep in the car so it always seems to go by fast for me.

I just love Fridays.
