It was so pawsome hosting my first-ever photo caption contest. Thanks to all you cool people who suggested a caption. And thanks to everybody who voted, too – I know it was hard to pick a favorite!

But enough of my yapping. We have a winner, and I’m going to let my K9 reporter Leroy and his new pawl Ella announce it, since they’re the purty pooches in the picture.

P.S. I wanna wish all you pooches and people a rad National Dog Day today! Among other real important things, this special day helps raise awareness of the number of pooches needing furever homes (a number that’s way too big).

Leroy: Thanks, TJ! And same to you.

Ella: Same here too! This is my first-ever National Dog Day, and I’m liking it! A lot!

Leroy: OK, Ella Stella Bella Gazella Cinderel—

Ella: The name’s just Ella, ‘K?

Leroy: All righty then, Just Ella, let’s stop keeping everybody in suspense. Ladies and gentlemen, mutts and purebreds, we proudly present the winner of TJ’s first-ever caption contest!!

Ella: “NaNa NaNaNaaaa, You can’t get me!”

Leroy is thinking: “Oh boy, is this what I get to look forward to every day with Ella?”

Leroy: Ruh-roh.

Leroy is a 3-year-old “Terribull” adopted from a Carson, Calif. shelter by i Love Dogs writer Laura Goldman. When he’s happy, Leroy snorts just like a pig. He still misses his first love, Sophie, who passed to the Rainbow Bridge last year, but he adores his new pawl Ella, a Shepherd-Pit-Monkey mix rescued from a Downey, Calif. shelter in March.
